The New York Times, fresh from an editorial on Atlantic Yards that relied on one source, Forest City Ratner executive MaryAnne Gilmartin--and a slam at Atlantic Yards opponent Daniel Goldstein that relied on a neighbor with violent thoughts-- today offers a 30-minute Real Estate page interview with Gilmartin:
Q. So what is the status of the Atlantic Yards project over all?
A. I spent a lot of time working on Atlantic Yards, and as you know we talked about starting the first building this year and we are committed to doing that. We are designing and running with two designs: a conventional design and a modular design. As we just announced, we will start construction of the first residential building, which will be 50 percent affordable, on Dec. 18.
That's a tad brief, and hardly encompasses the complexity and the controversy. Forest City also seemed committed to starting years ago, but then they tried to get more subsidies.
Would you believe that the same reporter's 30-minute interview with Bruce Ratner last March was tougher, though still gentle?
