Marty Markowitz turns 180 degrees: from Brooklyn's behind Atlantic Yards "1000 percent" to "among the most contentious developments in America's history"

"All I can say is, Brooklyn is a 1000 percent, a 1000 percent behind Atlantic Yards," Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz said enthusiastically in a video made in fall 2010 to help Forest City Ratner raise cheap capital from Chinese investors seeking green cards under the EB-5 program.

When I finally asked Markowitz about it last December, he was jovial, suggesting that the support was "980 percent."

He was more candid this week in an interview with Seattle's King5 (as noted by DDDB).

"It will certainly be written, in the days to come, as among the most contentious developments in America's history--there's no question," he stated, pensively. "It's not just New York history, it would be in the nation."

The video below mashes up the two statements. If this doesn't illustrate the "culture of cheating," I don't know what does.

  1. This really says it all. A wonderful moment in history, and though we needed no proof, a searing and sobering comment on Marty.
