Islanders dialing back, just one pre-season game at Barclays; regular-season schedule split now more even

The balance for the New York Islanders between the Barclays Center and the Nassau Coliseum continues to work itself out.

The team's 2019 preseason schedule will consist of seven games, including home games at Barclays Center, NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum and Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport, CT, according to a NHL announcement.

In 2018, the Isles played four home pre-season games, including two at Barclays, one in Nassau, and one in Bridgeport. Same in 2017. In 2016, while the Coliseum was being downsized/remodeled, and when the 25-year lease in Brooklyn was presumed to be "ironclad," the team played three pre-season home games at Barclays and one in Bridgeport.

In 2015, they played three home pre-season games, all at Barclays. In 2014, after the plan to move to Brooklyn had been announced, they played one each in Nassau, Brooklyn, and Bridgeport. In 2013, before the Brooklyn move was inked, they announced plans to play one game at each venue.

The regular season

As Newsday reported 6/21/19, the team will hold its home opener at the Coliseum, the first time in Nassau since 2014.

And, in the second season in which the Islanders split games between Brooklyn and Nassau, as Newsday reported 6/25/19, this season the mix is more even, flipping between venues:
The last regular-season game at Barclays will be March 22 against the Hurricanes before the Islanders conclude their schedule with four games at the Coliseum. The season-finale is against the Devils at the Coliseum on April 4.
Last season, the Islanders did not play the first of their 21 regular-season games at the Coliseum until Dec. 1 and then they played the last of their 20 regular-season games at Barclays on Feb. 26.
The schedule keeps both home games against the rival New York Rangers, with their own big fan base, at Barclays, which has more seats and more luxury suites, but is farther from the Isles' historic fan base.

The playoffs

No schedule for the playoffs was released, obviously, but let's see if last year's odd split-decision policy will be retained. Remember the announcement from the team, New York Islanders Announcement Regarding The 2019 Stanley Cup Playoffs:
Following consultation with Governor Andrew Cuomo's office, the New York Islanders and BSE Global have announced that should the Islanders qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, any first round home playoff games will take place at NYCB LIVE, home of the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
Should the team qualify for further rounds of the playoffs, any home Islanders games will take place at Barclays Center, reflecting that the Nassau Coliseum does not qualify as an NHL major league facility.
This agreement has been approved by the NHL, with the understanding that the scheduling of games will be in accordance with usual League practices.
