Brooklynite Joe Chan, who headed Empire State Development's division of Real Estate Development & Subsidiaries and thus oversaw Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park, has left ESD to oversee major projects for the YMCA, Crain's reported.
Before serving five years as Executive VP for ESD, Chan ran the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership and boosted Atlantic Yards. Previously, he advised Deputy Mayor for Economic Development Dan Doctoroff.
Chan told Crain's that he accepted the YMCA job earlier in the summer, but decided to stay with the state "until the developers were designated for Penn Station."
Chan was a board member of the Atlantic Yards Community Development Corporation (AY CDC), so presumably his replacement will also serve.
