The latest Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Construction Update (bottom), covering the two weeks beginning Monday, July 23, was circulated at 11:25 am yesterday (late) by Empire State Development (ESD) after preparation by Greenland Forest City Partners.
No new vertical construction is planned for now, and there's not much change from the previous update. However, the ongoing infrastructure work is supposed to position the project for later tower construction.
East Portal work
Notably, at the East Portal of the Vanderbilt Yard, at Atlantic and Vanderbilt avenue, installations of Stage 2 MPT (Maintenance and Protection of Traffic) for the East Portal Demolition/Reconstruction will begin during this reporting period.
(The project was announced at the beginning of the month, as shown in the screenshot at right.)
This MPT will create a work zone that encompasses the southernmost travel lane and the south parking lane on Atlantic Avenue between Clermont and Vanderbilt avenues. This MPT will close the south sidewalk of Atlantic between Clermont and Vanderbilt and the west sidewalk of Vanderbilt between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street. As part of this MPT, the west and south pedestrian crossings at the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue will be closed.
Demolition of the concrete portions of the East Portal structure is expected to begin during this period.
Barclays Center sidewalk
Barclays Center sidewalk work was described as nearly complete before the previous two two-week notices, but punch list work is still planned during the day and night time on Flatbush, Atlantic and Sixth avenues.
Utility work
National Grid and Con Edison Utility relocation work on Atlantic and Vanderbilt avenues will be ongoing, with some work possible during overnight hours. (The previous alert said the work was expected to be completed this month, but it apparently could stretch.)
Railyard work
Weekend (daytime) electrical utility installations are expected to continue in the railyard and in the tunnel. The LIRR will be utilizing a portion of the yard lighting near the Atlantic Avenue LIRR Access Ramp for security reasons. This is expected to continue through September.
The demolition that hasn't happened--yet
As stated in the past 55 two-week construction updates, demolition at Block 1120, the railyard block between Sixth and Carlton avenues, could commence upon receipt of Department of Buildings and Department of Transportation permits. A community notice will be distributed.
Maybe it's not actually going to happen within this two-week reporting period--but it should happen this year, it was announced earlier this month.
