The bi-monthly Atlantic Yards Quality of Life meeting scheduled for November didn't happen. When will it be re-scheduled? Stay tuned, says ESD.

So, what happened to the steadily scheduled bi-monthly Quality of Life meeting hosted by Empire State Development (ESD), the state authority that oversees/shepherds Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park?

Despite limited attendance and constrained transparency, it's still a forum to learn updates about the project, and for stakeholders to ask questions, even if the (online) meeting doesn't typically get candid answers.

As I wrote 11/29/22, the meeting had, as of the Sept. 20 meeting, still been scheduled for Nov. 15.

But we never got an announcement about the Nov. 15 meeting being scheduled, or even postponed. That's a first, in my memory, and suggests that the state authority was particularly distracted.

I recently asked ESD about the next meeting and got a not-so-illuminating response: "Details for the next Quality of Life meeting are being worked on and information will be distributed to the community once available."

Reasons for delay

I'm speculating here, but could it be that master developer Greenland Forest City Partners doesn't want to answer any questions, such as why the start of the platform, teased in June, never actually happened?

Keep in mind that Greenland USA, which owns nearly all of GFCP, is part of a Shanghai-based conglomerate that's suffering a credit crunch in a very tough domestic economic environment.

What about the AY CDC?

Note that I didn't even ask about the next meeting of the (purportedly) advisory Atlantic Yards Community Development Corporation (AY CDC), which is supposed to meet quarterly but typically has not.

It most recently met in June and even some innocuous questions got some semi-illuminating answers.

It has not met the promised schedule. It met in December 2021 for the first time in nearly nine months, and then met--more or less on schedule--in March and June of this year.
