Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park FAQ, timeline, and infographics (pinned post)

OK, this time they really mean to start combined sewer installation and water main replacement on Dean Street between Sixth and Vanderbilt avenues

One year ago, I reported (link) that work on the long-delayed "Pacific Park Project Phase II – Combined Sewer Installation and Water Main Replacement on Dean Street between 6th Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue" was expected to ramp up in Spring 2024 and take until November 2025.

That didn't happen, and it's not starting until next year.

(The work was supposed to start on October 24, 2022, according to an announcement posted by Brooklyn Community Board 8. According to a May 2022 presentation by the Department of Design and Construction (DDC), the project was supposed to take 36 months.)

The update

So credit Kaya Laterman of the BK Reader for her Dec. 18 article, Delayed by More Than a Year, Will a Brooklyn Infrastructure Upgrade Ever Get Done?

The project, she noted, was 15 months behind schedule, given multiple parties at odds:
When DeBoe Construction, the general contractor that won the bid for the Dean Street project, sent its crew to start work in April 2023, they found underground utilities owned by Con Edison and Verizon that blocked the firm from installing new water main and sewer pipes, according to Paul Scariano, the chief executive officer of PJS Group, which owns DeBoe.
Verizon has done its work, while Con Edison hasn't, but it told the BK Reader that it was working with the city's Department of Design and Construction (DDC).

DDC rep Denisse Moreno didn't quite explain the delay, but said it would've taken even longer without joint bidding. So there.

I wrote last year that a public meeting, such as another presentation to Community Board 8, would be useful. That's still true.

It's for Atlantic Yards

At a meeting in June 2022 of the Atlantic Yards Community Development Corporation, a representative of developer Greenland USA said the four new Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park buildings on the southeast block connect into existing infrastructure that the developer had already restored or improved.

However, as noted by advocate Gib Veconi,  the DDC's project description specifically cited the new buildings. From the notice:
The purpose of the project is to (1) upgrade sewer sizes to provide residents in the newly constructed buildings with sufficient capacity for sanitary discharge and to convey storm water from the area, (2) to install new distribution water mains to help with peak demands, (3) to improve the sizing of distribution water mains, and (4) to improve fire protection in the area.

That said, those buildings are already open.
