OK, this time they really mean to start combined sewer installation and water main replacement on Dean Street between Sixth and Vanderbilt avenues
One year ago, I reported (link) that work on the long-delayed "Pacific Park Project Phase II – Combined Sewer Installation and Water Main Replacement on Dean Street between 6th Avenue and Vanderbilt Avenue" was expected to ramp up in Spring 2024 and take until November 2025.
That didn't happen, and it's not starting until next year.
So credit Kaya Laterman of the BK Reader for her Dec. 18 article, Delayed by More Than a Year, Will a Brooklyn Infrastructure Upgrade Ever Get Done?
When DeBoe Construction, the general contractor that won the bid for the Dean Street project, sent its crew to start work in April 2023, they found underground utilities owned by Con Edison and Verizon that blocked the firm from installing new water main and sewer pipes, according to Paul Scariano, the chief executive officer of PJS Group, which owns DeBoe.Verizon has done its work, while Con Edison hasn't, but it told the BK Reader that it was working with the city's Department of Design and Construction (DDC).
However, as noted by advocate Gib Veconi, the DDC's project description specifically cited the new buildings. From the notice:
The purpose of the project is to (1) upgrade sewer sizes to provide residents in the newly constructed buildings with sufficient capacity for sanitary discharge and to convey storm water from the area, (2) to install new distribution water mains to help with peak demands, (3) to improve the sizing of distribution water mains, and (4) to improve fire protection in the area.
That said, those buildings are already open.
