Coming to Barclays Center tomorrow morning: 12 to 25 buses delivering campers to a New York Liberty game. (Updated)

This is the first of four articles about the July 12, 2022 Quality of Life meeting.

Barclays Center spokeswoman Mandy Gutmann said that tomorrow's 11 am game between the WNBA's New York Liberty and Las Vegas Aces will be Camp Day, with "a ton of campers that will be out to see the elimination game, so we're really excited to have a ton of our young Brooklyn fans in the building."

She added that "we are projecting that there will be a substantial number of school buses coming to drop off kids for the event. So I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware that we're anticipating buses during midday on Thursday."

Bus questions

How many buses? Where and when will drop-off and pick-up be? Will the buses linger in the neighborhood?

Gutmann said she's follow up on questions today, so I'll update this when I learn more.

(Updated) From Gutmann:
The latest info I have is 12 confirmed buses (potentially up to 20-25) that will drop off on Dean St. or Flatbush. The buses will either leave the area or some will be staged on Flatbush (no double parking) and the Atlantic Ave. layby for pick-ups. We anticipate drop-offs in the 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. window and pick-ups in the 12:30 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. window.
The arena surely will not be as full when it was inundated in this bus-heavy 2015 event and presumably will aim to avoid a repeat. Indeed, that was some 200 buses.

Plaza reconstruction
Plaza work progress

Gutmann said work at the arena plaza is continuing to revamp the pavers and lights. The fence cordoning off part of the plaza will move for different phases of the work.

The work should be finished by early October. The arena's 10-year anniversary is Sept. 28.
