Anger over Breonna Taylor’s killing and the prosecutors’ handling of the case has spread far from Louisville, with protests on Wednesday night drawing crowds in cities around the nation. Some rallies, like those in Portland, Maine, and Memphis, were small but vocal, while protests in Seattle and Portland, Ore., were effectively declared riots after demonstrators set fires and threw explosives at the police.Below, a sampling of tweets.
Thousands of protesters marched through the streets of New York, including a group in Brooklyn that met outside the Barclays Center and swelled to around 2,000 people as it marched across the Manhattan Bridge and shut down traffic.

Considering tax dollars built Barclays Center, it’s satisfying to see the people use it for demonstrations.

One thing that’s interesting is that — for now — there’s a fairly small police presence at Barclays compared to back in May after George Floyd killing. The crowd is, in response, much less riled up, speaking to each other more, not focusing on the cops as a unit.

I’m here at #barclays in Brooklyn for #JusticeForBreonnaTaylor. A march by Big Mike aka Ourlivesmatter over the Brooklyn Bridge just joined the crowd. Crowd now assuming they’re the leaders of this action and he’s not doing anything to discourage that assumption. pic.twitter.com/vusU81DQUH

well they’ve got an MLK quote on the Barclays screen, an Uber billboard about not tolerating racism, an Angela Davis quote painted on the subway station entrance, and plenty of cops ready to pounce on protesters 🙃🙃🙃 pic.twitter.com/Pu3QoHcwUs

“We learned again today that damage of property seems to be more important than a Black woman sleeping in her bed,” Williams told me. pic.twitter.com/ipNBA3Rkd3
Maybe like 1000 people here outside the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to protest the grand jury’s failure to indict anyone for the death of Breonna Taylor. “Forget ‘turn the other cheek,’ we’re way past that, it’s ‘eye for an eye’ now,” says the man on the megaphone. pic.twitter.com/HR6d74UFS8

One thing I didn’t anticipate about Barclays Center is how it would make it look like protesters are gathering to greet an alien ship, maybe one from a more just universe

Probably more than 2000 people here now, filling all the sidewalk west of the Barclays Center oculus. These things can turn quickly, but so far the mood of the crowd seems more of grief and exhaustion than rageful action.

somehow I have the feeling that Barclays and the Russian oligarch who owns the Nets may not have ever felt super great about hosting protests this whole time!

Down by Barclays and all the cops are mobilizing under a giant screen with a RBG quote about fighting for what you care about and in front of an Angela Davis "I am no longer accepting the things I cannot change. I am changing the things I cannot accept" quote. Weird scene.

Next speaker asks the crowd to lie down in the middle of the plaza outside the Barclays Center for 8 minutes and 46 seconds. “Today, you’re Eric Garner. Today you’re George Floyd. Today a pig has his knee on your neck, and that means you’re dead.” pic.twitter.com/6D022nw6wY

May I recommend the @barclayscenter plaza for the statue. https://t.co/Mpp0GgS25K
