The latest Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Construction Update (bottom), covering the two weeks beginning Monday, Oct. 15 was circulated at 3:10 pm yesterday (late) by Empire State Development (ESD) after preparation by Greenland Forest City Partners.
There are a few changes from the previous update, notably extended hours of work on the railyard's East Portal, including evening, night, and weekend work.
Not only will demolition of the East Portal structure continue near Atlantic and Vanderbilt avenues, to expedite the work, the contractor will extend the weekday work hours within approved permit stipulations (7 am to 5:30 pm) until the end of November.
The contractor also will work between 8 am and 5:30 pm on Saturdays. In both cases, the timeline will be reevaluated in November. Appropriate noise and dust mitigation measures should be in place, but are not detailed.
Also, the contractor plans to perform East Portal abatement activities--asbestos? it's unspecified-- during Night Shifts (5 pm to 2 am) during this reporting period. Work will be conducted in the East Portal area and below grade. Appropriate light, noise and dust mitigation measures will be in place.
Sidewalk coming back
Restoration work for the South Side of Atlantic Avenue sidewalk between Carlton Avenue and Cumberland Street will begin during this reporting period.
Demolition to start
The erection of scaffolding will continue on 728 Atlantic--one of two buildings on Block 1120 that "bump" into the railyard from Atlantic Avenue--should be finished.
And demolition of those buildings--promised as a possibility more than two years ago--is expected to begin, according to a statement at a public meeting last week.
At the railyard
At the railyard, various "manhole installations, duct bank installations, and cable pulling operations" plus asphalt installations will continue. Removal of the temporary site construction ramp on Pacific Street will continue, while vehicular access into and out of the site will be through the new 6th Avenue Access Ramp.
At the towers
Tenant fit out work in ground floor retail space will be ongoing at B14 (535 Carlton Avenue), while it may begin--as stated in the previous update--at B11 (550 Vanderbilt Avenue).
