Coming tomorrow, changes on Atlantic Avenue near arena: left turn banned, one crosswalk closed, part of sidewalk closed

Yesterday, residents got the same notice of changes in and around Atlantic Avenue from Nicole J. Jordan, Community Relations, Empire State Development, regarding ESD's Atlantic Yards project and also the Community Liaison Office for the newly renamed Pacific Park Brooklyn project.

In other words, they don't have their names in sync.

As noted in the document, on or around Friday, August 8, there will be temporary changes to the roadway network, as part of the construction of a new west portal connecting the Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Vanderbilt Yard to the Atlantic Terminal:

  • The left turn for vehicles from westbound Atlantic Avenue onto southbound 6th Avenue will be prohibited. Vehicles may reach southbound 6th Avenue via Carlton Avenue and Pacific Street.
  • The west crosswalk across Atlantic Avenue at South Portland Avenue / 6th Avenue will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians may use the crosswalk on the the east side of the intersection.
  • The south sidewalk on Atlantic Avenue from 6th Avenue to South Oxford Street will be closed to pedestrian traffic. Pedestrians may use the crosswalk at Cumberland Street.
  • This left turn ban and crosswalk closure will be in effect for approximately 24 months (two years). MPT installation on Atlantic Avenue will occur overnight and should take two to three nights to complete.
