More details on the arena block, thanks to a new schematic, with building envelopes

So, what happened to Frank Gehry's plan for Atlantic Yards?

Well, it's been tweaked, and likely will be tweaked even more, as a somewhat more detailed design of the arena block--though not the arena--has emerged.

Among the voluminous documents that were part of the Atlantic Yards master closing, first made available today, are schematics (below; click to enlarge) of the arena block produced by Stantec Consulting. They include modified building envelopes and a parking ramp.

The Gehry schematic

There's more detail in the Stantec designs then the Gehry schematic of the arena block, via the Design Guidelines attached to the 2006 Modified General Project Plan.

Whither Stantec?

Stantic was the firm that, as a consultant to Forest City Ratner, inspected the subway tunnels around the arena block, and found them in deteriorated condition. (More on that shortly.)

And while the firm offers design and consulting services in planning, engineering, architecture, surveying, and project management, it has not previously been mentioned as a master planner.

But as we've learned, nothing with Atlantic Yards is set in stone.
