Yet again, closure of Sixth Avenue extended to accommodate West Portal work

Originally, they were supposed to be done by Monday, June 1. Then, by Monday June 8

Now, apparent delays in the West Portal construction for the Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Brooklyn mean that Sixth Avenue between Atlantic Avenue and Pacific Street will be closed continuously through 5 am Wednesday, June 10, with two-way traffic expected to be restored by 5 am, Thursday, June 11, as indicated in the 2nd Updated Community Notice, below.

It's a bit strange that those in charge--Pacific Park Brooklyn Community Liaison Office and Empire State Development, the state agency overseeing/shepherding the project--didn't announce this until today.

It lakes it seem like the strategy is to undersell the extent of the closures, then present it as a last-minute adjustment.

Other impacts, and adjustments

As previously announced, over the weekend from 10 pm tonight through 5 am, Monday, June 8, Atlantic Avenue will be narrowed to one lane eastbound and two lanes westbound.

During the nightly and continuous closure times, crosswalks across Atlantic Avenue at / from S. Portland Avenue will be closed, as pedestrians must follow the sidewalk along the north side of Atlantic Avenue to later reach points south.

Traffic Enforcement Agents (7 am to 10 pm) and flaggers (10 pm to 7 am) will be onsite to assist with vehicular and pedestrian movements. Variable Message Signs will direct vehicles to the approved detour routes.
