Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park infographics: what's built/what's coming/what's missing, who's responsible, + project FAQ/timeline (pinned post)

Yes, the middle school at Dean Street and Sixth Ave. should open in Sept. 2025. But School Construction Authority recently hoped for Sept. 2024.

If you walk past the intersection of Dean Street and Sixth Avenue, you might see, as shown in the photo at right, a posterboard indicating construction of the middle school, I.S. 653, in the base of the B15 tower, known as Plank Road.

It indicates, as we've been told before by the New York City School Construction Authority (SCA), a targeted completion date of September 2025--though state officials once unwisely projected Fall 2018.

(While the tower has the address 662 Pacific Street, the school will have the address 491 Dean Streeet.)

A previous goal abandoned

It's a bit curious, however, to see nearby, behind the fence guarding the construction trailer on Dean Street, the upside-down posterboard at left.

Because that indicates the bygone targeted completion date of September 2024.

But that just was not to be.

A better view

Below, I've cropped the photo, and rotated it 180 degrees, so it's easier to see that September 2024 target date.

From the SCA's latest document

According to the SCA's most recent Quarterly Status on Projects in Process, for the quarter ending March 31, 2023, they're still aiming for September 2025. Here's their page on Capital Plan Management Reports & Data.
