Barclays Center releases September 2022 event calendar, with 8 concerts. New logos honor 10th year of the arena/Nets, but no celebration (yet) scheduled.

The Barclays Center yesterday circulated its September 2022 event calendar, which includes eight concerts and no other events. The first Brooklyn Nets preseason game is on Oct. 3.

Another announced event, the Soulfrito Music Fest on September 17, has been cancelled, after being rescheduled from June.

The competition

Note: the UBS Arena at Belmont Park, which some saw as cutting into the ability of Barclays to attract touring acts, has only five events scheduled. The Nassau Coliseum, which may not be long for this world, has none in September.

Madison Square Garden has 23 events scheduled, including nine nights with Harry Styles. So MSG clearly has primacy.

Does that mean there are too many big venues? Well, in the case of the Coliseum, surely. As for the rest, the verdict is still fuzzy, since the concert and event schedule has not fully recovered from the pandemic.

Anniverary tidings

Note that no tenth anniversary celebration for the arena has been announced--it opened Sept. 28, 2021--but the arena, on social media, has changed its profile picture to honor the anniversary and will be celebrating past events.

So too have the Brooklyn Nets

So perhaps we expect some sort of belated celebration--perhaps when the arena plaza, which is undergoing reconstruction, is finally finished--which surely wont be by the end of this month.

September 2021

There are more events this month compared to September 2021, when the pandemic was even more of a drag on the concert and event schedule.

As I reported, and as shown in the screenshot below, there were only four events: the MTV Video Music Awards, one New York Liberty game, one concert, and one comedy show.

September 2019

Before the pandemic, the arena was actually not that busy in September 2019. There were five ticketed events, including two concerts, two e-sports events, and one pre-season hockey game. That's eight events fewer than in September 2018, when there was one more hockey game, plus seven Sesame Street Live events.

In September 2019, there were also two private, non-ticketed events, the subject of which was not disclosed, though one was .a fashion and music experience.
