Checking on the latest (non)-Construction Update. It's online only. Plus a clarification: ESD says 876 affordable units to go. Super's unit counts.
According to the Atlantic Yards page (link) from Empire State Development (ESD), the state auithority that oversees the project, there's no construction scheduled. Duh.
What's new is that, though they continue to produce the updates bi-weekly, they're emailing them only monthly, at least until construction resumes.
New info on affordable unitsAlso, I belatedly noticed a change in the page's official description of the project, one that has been in place since at least October, according to the Internet Archive. The second paragraph in the official description has been updated:
The Atlantic Yards Project(Emphases added)
The Atlantic Yards Project is a 22-acre, $4.9 billion project, that consists of the 18,000-seat Barclays Arena; the development of a reconfigured and improved LIRR train yard and subway facility upgrades; the development of 16 buildings for residential and commercial uses, including up to 6,430 apartments, of which 2,250 will be affordable to low, moderate and middle income households; and the creation of eight acres of publicly accessible open space.
Empire State Development, in conjunction with the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the City of New York, and affiliates of Greenland Forest City, are working together to implement the project. To date, the arena, eight residential buildings totaling 3,212 residential units with 1,374 affordable units, an updated MTA entrance, an upgraded LIRR train yard, 3 acres of open space, a public middle school, and a health care facility have been completed.
First, that's jumping the gun regarding the school, which won't open until September 2024, at best.
Second, ESD has now clarified that it counts 1,374 affordable units constructed, which leaves 876 left to build. (I've said 876 or 877.) That means that it counts the super's unit at 535 Carlton, even though it wasn't in the affordable housing lottery.
