Barclays Center releases August 2023 calendar: seven ticketed events (three WNBA, four concerts), plus six events, including two block parties, at the plaza

The Barclays Center two days ago released its August 2023 event calendar.

There are six ticketed events, including three WNBA New York Liberty games, and four concerts, including two by 50 Cent. A Lil Durk concert scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled.

The calendar also includes six "plaza activations"--four events sponsored by Nike Running from 7-11 am on each Saturday this month, the Africa Everything on Sunday Aug. 13 from 1-6 pm, and Angela Yee Day on Sunday Aug. 27 from 1-6 pm.

The Nike Long Runs are scheduled to start at 8 am and are preparation for the NYC Marathon.

Africa Everything hosted an Afrobeats Takeover block party last year. Angela Yee Day is a block party hosted by the radio personality. Last year, it was co-sponsored by WBLS and the Joe & Clara Tsai Foundation's Social Justice Fund. The latter also co-sponsored the Africa Everything event.

2022 comparison

The August 2022 event calendar included are six ticketed events, including three WNBA New York Liberty games, and three concerts, though two other concerts were canceled

The calendar also included two free showings of student art, part of The Basquiat Project, and a private event associated with the project.

Before 2022

As noted, the August 2021 calendar was even more sparse, with no concerts. In 2019, the last pre-pandemic August, there were eight ticketed events, including one boxing card, one WNBA game, and six concerts. There also were two private events.

It should be noted that the Liberty played their home games in Westchester that season, as part of a transitional year after Tsai's purchase, before moving to Brooklyn.
