I can't say I consider Stephen Witt's Kings County Politics web site a comprehensive or necessarily responsible source of news--consider this gem of a press release reposted verbatim as Maimonides Expert Gives Thanksgiving Digestion Tips You’ll be Thankful to Know.
And any regular readers of this blog know that I've been tough on the Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park coverage by the "notorious Stephen Witt."
That said, let's credit his website for the unbylined 12/11/17 Reyna Leaving Deputy Borough President Post, which has Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams confirming that Deputy BP Diana Reyna, a former City Council Member, is leaving the office, with no comment from Reyna:
While Reyna could not be reached for comment, political speculation has it she might have stepped down to join the Mayor Bill de Blasio Administration or distancing herself from Adams for a possible run for the borough presidency in four years.
I think that it's far more likely Reyna has or wants a new job, perhaps starting in 2018, than that she wants to distance herself from Adams and the publicity attached to the office. Note: Reyna is still listed in her position on the BP's web site, and in her LinkedIn bio.
Reyna has attended some Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park meetings and thus brought some continuity to the office on those issues.
Note: nearly a week later, no other news outlets have followed up on the Reyna news--another sign of diminished local coverage.
The real story
Update: It didn't show up in news coverage, but actually Crain's New York Business had the news first, in a 12/7/17 advertising section, Executive Moves, which stated that Reyna will become a Senior Partner at Athena Consulting Group Inc., "an innovative start-up company of all women."
"Reyna will be co-leading the firm’s practices areas - government relations, public relations, community engagement and business development. WBE certification in process," it said. The firm is run by Laura Imperiale, who was Council Member Reyna's Chief of Staff (2004-06) and later worked for Tully Construction as Director of Government Affairs.
