Even before construction fencing and 27-story tower, fire truck + traffic snag at Dean/Sixth

As I reported in December, residents questioning the architect of the B15 tower (aka 664 Pacific) east of Sixth Avenue between Dean and Pacific streets wondered how this residential building and school would function.

How will the service entrance fit with the nearby firehouse across Dean Street? The Fire Department, responded Jonathan Marvel, didn't have a problem with it, responded Jonathan Marvel, which led to some skepticism.

Where will buses pull up? City education agencies "aren't planning how the buses are going to arrive," Marvel responded. " It's not part of the design of the layout of the school. It's going to have to happen as a management issue."

"That can evolve over time, as the building gets occupied and used," he said, suggesting onlookers "take a leap of faith." Then again, the arena loading dock was supposed to operate seamlessly, with deliveries timed, and that hasn't happened.

And, as noted in the Instagram posts below, yesterday traffic on Sixth Avenue slowed the passage of a fire truck returning to the station, then delays in positioning the truck to enter the station snagged traffic on Dean Street. And this is without construction fencing for the B15 site or (obviously) and operating 27-story building with a 616-seat middle school.

Dean and the whole of 6th Avenue from Atlantic to Flatbush freeze as a fire engine backs into the fire station. B65 bus is also delayed. It doesn't help that cars are triple parked on Dean. The core problem is that the intersections on 6th are failed. How's this going to work with a school? 6th Avenue south bound was bumper to bumper today at 5:13 pm. I watched a fire engine stuck in the 6th Avenue traffic from Pacific Street to Dean.
