The latest Atlantic Yards/Pacific Park Construction Update (bottom), covering the two weeks beginning Monday, June 25, was circulated at 3:44 pm Friday (lead time) by Empire State Development (ESD) after preparation by Greenland Forest City Partners.
No new vertical construction is planned for now, and there's not much change from the previous update. However, the ongoing infrastructure work, especially the foundation work in the railyard, is supposed to position the project for later tower construction.
Barclays Center sidewalk work is nearly complete, with punch list work planned during the day and night time on Flatbush, Atlantic and Sixth Avenues. Work includes saw cutting, calking and minor concrete patching.
This both fixes cracked sidewalks and, as I wrote, obviates the need to clean sidewalks deeply stained by dripping rust. But it doesn't clean up all the rust.
Railyard work at East Portal
Installations of MPT [Maintenance and Protection of Traffic] for the East Portal Demolition/Reconstruction is expected to be completed, which closes the south sidewalk, southern-most travel lane, and south parking lane on Atlantic Avenue near the intersection of Vanderbilt Avenue. At that intersection, the west pedestrian crossing will be closed. This allow for the demolition and reconstruction of the Rail Yard East Portal Structure.
Also, demolition of the Atlantic Avenue. median is part of this MPT. All this work will be completed over the new few weeks. East Portal daytime demolition prep will begin on sidewalk area adjacent to Vanderbilt Avenue.
Removal of soil and debris from atop the portal structure will continue during this reporting period.
Inside the East Portal, at railyard level, interior equipment demolition and debris removal and other preparatory work for upcoming East Portal structure demolition will be ongoing.
At the central portion of the railyard
Foundation work continues in the Vanderbilt Yard block to the west of Atlantic and Carlton avenues. Pile drilling, previously said to continue, is expected to be completed in the northeastern portion of Block 1120. Previously it was to continue in daytime hours, but no hours were mentioned.
Weekend (daytime) electrical utility installations are expected to continue in the railyard and in the tunnel. The LIRR will be utilizing a portion of the yard lighting near the Atlantic Avenue LIRR Access Ramp for security reasons. This is expected to continue through September.
Other work
National Grid may begin relocation work on Atlantic and Vanderbilt avenues--though this was supposed to potentially begin in the previous two two-week periods.
At 38 Sixth Avenue, the work is described as "Closeout," while previously it was "Final punch list work." No further explanation is provided.
At B14, 535 Carlton Avenue, the facade consultant doing closeout out work on sidewalk and in the interior. This is not mentioned as new work, but it was not previously noticed.
The demolition that hasn't happened
As stated in the past 53 two-week construction updates, demolition at Block 1120, the railyard block between Sixth and Carlton avenues, could commence upon receipt of Department of Buildings and Department of Transportation permits. A community notice will be distributed. Maybe it's not actually going to happen within this two-week reporting period.
