The summer concerts are back, sort of.
After the demise of the Marty Markowitz-founded concert series, funded by a nonprofit in apparent financial trouble (plus donor fatigue), Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams announced belated free shows this month at Wingate Concert Series at Wingate Park in East Flatbush, plus a Coney Island Concert Series held at Ford Amphitheater in Coney Island, beginning in early September.
"Borough President Adams thanked the organizers of the two series — Globe Star Media-N-Entertainment and City Parks Foundation, respectively — for their hard work on expedited timelines to ensure the well-attended tradition of free concerts at these entertainment venues would continue this season," a press release said.
Also important are the announced partners--er, donors--for the Wingate Concert Series:107.5 WBLS, 1190 WLIB, Broadway Stages, Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, Christian Cultural Center, Con Edison, Forest City, HelloBeautiful, HOT 97, Investors Bank, LIVE FREE, MadameNoire, North Star Charities, New York Daily News, NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County, Pepsi, Property Markets Group, Pure Leaf Tea House Collection, Two Trees Management, and WE TV.
So that's three real estate developers, among a broad group, but we don't know who gave how much.
Additional details regarding dates and performers for the Coney Island Concert Series are forthcoming. Council Member Mark Treyger said money also came from City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, Adams, and the de Blasio Administration.
Here's coverage on Patch and Bklyner, all--like this post--based on the same press release.
