From hoops to hockey? Markowitz, contemplating Islanders' move to Brooklyn, disregards the planned arena's limitations
Upon the 12/10/03 announcement of the Atlantic Yards plan and effort to buy the Nets and move them to Brooklyn, the New York Times reported:
"This started with basketball, a Brooklyn sport," Mr. [Bruce] Ratner said.
Now Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz tells the New York Post that the New York Islanders, whose destination is uncertain, should come to Brooklyn.
Of course, as the Post notes--but Markowitz apparently disregards--the planned Atlantic Yards arena would not be able to accommodate hockey.
A Brooklyn sport?
And, should the plan advance, how could Markowitz and Ratner host a press conference featuring Brooklyn-born hockey stars the way they did in 2004, as the Brooklyn Eagle reported:
A press conference at Junior?s featuring a long list of Brooklyn basketball legends (Sidney Green, Pearl Washington, Connie Hawkins, World B. Free and Albert King), was followed by the appointment of former Net and Knick All-Star forward Bernard King as the front man for his group.
